What do you buy? Family games the teens will be happy to play!

When we have a family gathering lots of us like to play family games.

Unfortunately as the age range of many families increases it becomes more difficult to find games (other than charades) which aren’t too difficult for the older generation to keep up with, but which keep the teenagers interested. So we have been looking for board games the whole family will hopefully enjoy, no matter what their age.

Here are our favourites.

1. Obama Llama 2

4 – 20 players (teams)

My all-time favourite – this brilliant but hard to explain rhyming game includes guessing phrases like ‘Eiffel Tower taking a shower’ to ‘King Kong playing ping pong’. An absolutely tried and tested beauty and one of the best Christmas family games.

2. Regional Monopoly

The traditional game with a twist. There are so many regions to choose from, and this is only a tiny snippet of the alphabetical list:

6. Soundiculous

A gloriously silly, family-friendly party game of ridiculous sounds. The aim is to get the most points by making ridiculous sounds and guessing what ridiculous sounds other players are making. The sounds range from nice and easy (monkey, train, eating) through to medium (didgeridoo, roller coaster, electric shock) to the truly challenging hard (wrestling, scuba diving, woodpecker) Great idea!

7. Scattergories

A fun, simple game (similar to Animal, Tree, Country, Flower) where you are given a letter and a category and each person has to write down as many things as they can starting with that letter, in a limited time. Good any time of year, but it is up there with my favourite Christmas family games.

8. Trivial Pursuit Family Edition

A version of the original game, but there are different questions for kids and adults. From Amazon

9. Sequence

This is basically a more challenging evolution of Connect 4, which has amazing reviews. It is perfect for both the kids and the grandparents and doesn’t take too long to play. A brilliant all rounder for a Christmas family games night.
