Skin and Hair – Natural products for teenage skin
We have had more interest in skin and hair products for young skin, than any other topic.
Understandably parents want to be sure the products they buy for their children are safe and kind to the skin. They also want them to be kind to the environment. So we have been looking into what’s around and come up with a useful list.
All the products featured here are our tried and tested personal favourites (well, our teens) and are ideal for young skin and the planet. The best natural products for teenage skin around.
Shampoo Bar – Primal Suds
Primal Suds are a fab company. They make wonderful natural soaps (which we have also tried) but we have been focusing on their shampoo bars for this article.
We tried the SHAMSMOO bar which smells delicious with the citrus oils. It has added rice milk and rice powder which can enrich and repair hair over prolonged use. My teenage daughter used the bar for two weeks and is now a complete convert. With any swap to natural shampoo bars you have to go through what they call a ‘transition phase’ where you may feel like it’s not working. My daughter found the first few days made her hair feel a bit ‘waxy’ but as she was expecting it she didn’t mind. It is important to hang in there as it is only temporary and the benefits will outweigh this short period of change. For her it passed within 10 days and her hair is now softer and shinier than ever before. She says she will never go back to conventional shampoo.
As with all their soaps it comes with a super cute and useful wooden soap holder.

Primal Suds – ‘We have taken soap making back in time. We use Mother Nature as the back bone including clays, charcoals and essential oils. We also use the historic hot process method using activated charcoal not only for its health benefits but as nod to our ancestry soap makers mixing fats with fire ash to develop the first soaps known to man, these happened to be free of unearthly additives as well… just like all Primal Suds products’.
All their soaps are 100% biodegradable, with all packaging compostable. Plus
NO PLASTIC, ZERO WASTE, VEGAN, NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS!

Hair Conditioner/Shave Bar – The Solid Bar Company
If your teens use hair conditioner (mine absolutely do due to very coloured, tangly, fine hair) then The Solid Bar Company do a great natural detangling bar. My 18 year old has been trying it and says although a bit more effort to rub through your hair, it works just as well as conventional conditioner.
Pretty impressed with this as it is very apparent when a hair conditioner doesn’t work and my daughter is very particular! It comes in a standard and a family size to suit all hair types. It can also be used for shaving and she uses it for her legs.
Natural products for teenage skin come in all shapes and sizes.
The Solid bar Company – Botanical Vegan Condition/Shave
Make-Up Remover Pads – Tabitha Eve and Honour Your Flow
Many teens are keen to switch to eco friendly cleansing pads (rather than throwing away hundreds of face wipes and pads like my girls) – ideal for removing make up or applying toner. They are super simple to care for as you simply wash them in your normal laundry load and leave to dry naturally.
My daughter says this is one of the simplest changes you can make to your daily routine to have a big impact on saving the planet. We simply love these pads from:
Tabitha Eve – packs of 5 or 10.
Honour Your Flow – 10 wipes with cotton wash bag
Skin Care – Organic Young, The Green People
When this beautifully packaged box of gorgeous natural products arrived my girls were very excited. It is full of natural products for teenage skin from Organic Young – My Skin Goals. The boxes contain three useful products for a 3 step routine of soothing botanicals:
Clear Skin Foaming Face Wash 100ml – Foaming antibacterial face wash for acne-prone teenage skin
Clear Skin Cleansing Moisturiser 50ml – Light, purifying natural moisturiser for acne-prone skin. My teenage daughter wanted me to add that this product looks small but a tiny amount goes a very long way.
Clear Skin Purifying Serum 30ml – Daily-use anti-blemish serum to target spots and promote a clear complexion
The products are also suitable for teens who may be prone to eczema and psoriasis.
Balancing Face Cream – Herbfarmacy
A light daily moisturiser to help balance oily skin. With Calendula to soothe irritated skin from flare-ups of acne and Echinacea to remove excess oils and residue, as well as Marshmallow and Rosehip oil. My daughters have been using it and say it is so soothing, smells delicious and a small amount goes a long way!
This is a lovely natural face cream which is vegan, cruelty free and contains no parabens, phthalates, SLS, artificial fragrances, formaldehyde, nanoparticles or propane/petroleum bases. The glass jar, cardboard box and paper label are all recyclable.
£21 for 60ml (the ones shown here are the 20ml travel size pots)
Shampoo Bar – &Keep
We tried quite a few shampoo bars and this was definitely one of my teenage daughters favourite. It smells delicious and was much easier to lather up. It is handmade in the New Forest and the company – &Keep – also have a big selection of products including natural deodorants which are perfect for younger, more delicate skin.
Anti-Stress Lotion for Kids – The Solid Bar Company
When it comes to natural products for younger skin there is a bigger range of products than you might think.
These lovely bars are also from The Solid Bar Company and are highly concentrated, undiluted and therefore long lasting, to use on hands, wrists and other pressure points to ease the stresses that come with adolescence.
The lotion contains relaxing and calming blends of essential oils including: cedarwood, lavender and vetiver, which have all also been used to treat symptoms of autism and ADHD.
Natural Deodorant – Ema’s Apothecary
Ema’s Apothecary is a small company run by a lovely lady in Lithuania. She made her natural products initially for herself, but when her friends loved them she started selling them. Ema uses only natural, high quality ingredients which are all aluminium and paraben free.
It absorbs moisture well (thanks to the arrowroot powder), it doesn’t leave stains on your clothing and you aren’t using the damaging chemicals in standard deodorants on young, vulnerable skin. It also smells very nice!
Lynne’s daughter (almost 13) tried this natural deodorant. Once she got the hang of applying it with her fingers, a little goes a long way, she was very happy with the results. Her favourite scent was ylang-ylang with lemongrass coming in a very close second!
The cost depends on the size of the jar, and delivery.
