I am always a bit sneaky when it comes to stocking fillers. I try to buy as many gifts as possible that I would actually buy for my children later on in the year anyway! What do you buy as a stocking filler that will surprise and entertain children but will also be of use to them?
Stocking fillers to eat, wear or use
I look to buy stocking fillers that can either be worn, used or eaten. I like practical gifts but ones that are fun and a bit Christmassy all at the same time. A Christmas stocking favourite in our house is a good old bubble bath. This makes a great stocking filler but instead of the usual type my children use all year round, I choose one that is packaged differently such as glittery, minion themed or Christmas pudding scented! Because it feels a bit special I know that my children will enjoy using it and it won’t be left sad and broken in the corner the day after Boxing day.
Don’t add to the existing clutter
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against my children having fun at Christmas time. It’s just that in the past I have found many of the little plastic games and toys given to them only get played with once on Christmas Day and then they end up cluttering their already bursting at the seems bedrooms. So for me, stocking fillers that get used up in one way or another, leaving no mess behind and that still put a smile on the faces of my children are definitely top of my Christmas list!
Here are some ideas for useful stocking fillers that won’t add to the piles of already existing clutter in your house that are still thoughtful and fun to wake up to on Christmas morning.
